Enrollment & Fees for Public School Students

Grades 6–12

VVA students in grades 6–12 may be enrolled either full-time or as supplemental enrollments in individual courses. 

Schools and divisions may enroll secondary students (grades 6–12) as needed per the 2024–2025 free enrollment allotment:

• 6,000 semester-equivalency public school course enrollments statewide are available at no cost to divisions.
• Each Virginia public school may enroll up to 15 students per course (in either semester of the course) with no enrollment fees. All Virtual Virginia enrollments are provided on a first-come, first-served basis pending available openings in each course. 
• If a Virginia public school wishes to enroll more than 15 students in one course, or if the statewide free enrollment allotment has been met, the school may enroll based on the fee schedule below.
• The free enrollment allotment does not apply to dual enrollment.

If a division’s needs exceed the statewide free allotment items listed above, the following fee schedule—reflecting a per-student enrollment fee discount off the Global base enrollment fee, based on a school division’s 2024–2026 local composite index (LCI)—will be implemented to serve additional enrollments.

Payment/Refund/Transfer Policy

If a public school student’s enrollment in any VVA course receives an enrollment fee discount off the Global base enrollment fee (according to the fee schedule above) and the school/division determines that the family is responsible for the enrollment fee payment, that student’s family is required to pay the enrollment fee for that course by:

• June 20, 2024, for any course enrollment that begins in fall 2024*
• December 5, 2024, for any course enrollment that begins in spring 2025**

If payment is not made by the corresponding date above, the student will be academically withdrawn from the course. An enrollment fee payment made after the corresponding date above will not be eligible for a refund.

During the academic year, Virginia public school enrollments are non-transferable, and no enrollment fee will be refunded after the corresponding enrollment agreement has been sent to the division. In addition, any enrollment that receives the per-student enrollment fee discount off the Global base enrollment fee is not eligible for a refund after payment has been made to VVA by invoice or credit/debit card.
