• Health & PE 8

    Students will begin to demonstrate competence in skillful movement in modified, dynamic game/sport activities and in a variety of rhythmic and recreational activities. Students will set goals, track progress, and participate in activities to improve lifetime health-related fitness. The course covers body systems, nutrition, physical health, disease prevention, health promotion, substance abuse prevention, safety, injury prevention, mental wellness, social and emotional skills, violence prevention, and community and environmental health.

    This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 8 Health and Grade 8 Physical Education.

  • Health & PE 7

    Students will continue to develop competence in modified versions of game/sport, dance, and recreational activities. The student will analyze skill performance and set reasonable and appropriate goals for improvement and maintenance of health-related fitness. The course covers body systems, nutrition, physical health, disease prevention, health promotion, substance abuse prevention, safety, injury prevention, mental wellness, social and emotional skills, violence prevention, and community and environmental health.

    This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 7 Health and Grade 7 Physical Education.

  • Health & PE 6

    Students will assess their health-related fitness status and set reasonable and appropriate goals for development and improvement. Students will understand health issues and the relationship between choices and consequences. The course covers body systems, nutrition, physical health, disease prevention, health promotion, substance abuse prevention, safety, injury prevention, mental wellness, social and emotional skills, violence prevention, and community and environmental health.

    This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 6 Health and Grade 6 Physical Education.

  • Health & PE 10 (not Driver Education)

    Health and Physical Education 10 is designed to provide the student with the necessary knowledge, processes, and skills to make healthy choices, prevent chronic disease, and avoid health-risk behaviors such as poor dietary patterns and living a sedentary lifestyle. Throughout the course, students will actively participate in and track their physical activity in combination with completing lessons and assignments. Students are required to complete 60 hours of physical activity.

    This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 10 Health and Grade 10 Physical Education.

  • Health & PE 9 (not Driver Education)

    Health and Physical Education 9 is designed to provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge to create a healthy lifestyle for the individual, the family, and the community. Throughout the course, students will actively participate in and track their physical activity in combination with completing lessons and assignments.

    Students are required to complete 60 hours of physical activity and will be required to demonstrate Adult and Child CPR, use of an AED, and First Aid skills for bleeding, contusions, fractures, and anaphylactic shock. Below are some options to meet this requirement:

    1. Schedule a time with the local school or school division (for example, a health teacher or school nurse) to demonstrate skill development.
    2. Schedule a time with a CPR/First Aid instructor at a local hospital, fire department, or corporation to demonstrate skill development.
    3. Obtain a certification in CPR and First Aid from a certifying body, such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
