Health and Physical Education 9 is designed to provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge to create a healthy lifestyle for the individual, the family, and the community. Throughout the course, students will actively participate in and track their physical activity in combination with completing lessons and assignments.
Students are required to complete 60 hours of physical activity and will be required to demonstrate Adult and Child CPR, use of an AED, and First Aid skills for bleeding, contusions, fractures, and anaphylactic shock. Below are some options to meet this requirement:
- Schedule a time with the local school or school division (for example, a health teacher or school nurse) to demonstrate skill development.
- Schedule a time with a CPR/First Aid instructor at a local hospital, fire department, or corporation to demonstrate skill development.
- Obtain a certification in CPR and First Aid from a certifying body, such as the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 9 Health Education and Grade 9 Physical Education.
