In any field of study, there may be times when we encounter content with which we disagree. Consuming and learning such content does not indicate one’s acceptance of it.
However, Virtual Virginia understands that encountering some types of content within a course may make a student or their parent/guardian especially uncomfortable. If a student (or their parent/guardian) is uncomfortable with specific content used in a VVA course, they should contact their instructor immediately to discuss further.
The instructor will work with the student (and/or their parent/guardian) to choose appropriate alternate content that will still help the student meet the learning objectives in the course, if possible. However, if it is not possible for a student to meet the course’s required learning objectives unless they encounter the content of concern, then the student and/or their parent/guardian will need to contact their school counselor regarding a course change.
