  • English 10

    In English 10, students continue to build upon skills learned in earlier grades. There is a sustained emphasis on reading comprehension by comparing fiction and nonfiction texts. Students will analyze the cultural and social functions and universal themes of fictional texts from different cultures. This course aligns with the Virginia Standards of Learning for English 10.


  • AP English Literature & Composition

    This course is designed to challenge a student’s ability to think critically, to analyze and evaluate literature and its literary devices, and to write analytical essays effectively.


  • English 9

    English 9 covers multiple types of literature from around the world: novels, short stories, epic poetry, and drama. Student writing will encompass narrative, expository, and persuasive forms for a variety of purposes and audiences, and emphasis will be placed on expanding vocabulary and proper grammar.
