Elementary Synchronous Instruction

Virtual Virginia promotes meaningful interactions between K–12 learners and instructors through time-based or task/product-based measures of attendance. A meaningful interaction is defined as two-way engagement with a student and staff that allows some sort of feedback or input from the student on successes and challenges.

Elementary students (grades K–5) have a meaningful interaction with their teacher or appropriate school staff on a daily basis. Recognizing the young age of these students, parents/caregivers play a key role in enabling access for remote attendance, and divisions offer ongoing support for parents/caregivers.

The VVA teacher will facilitate engaging daily synchronous instruction, Q&A sessions, 1:1 and small-group instructional time for learners during the week. VVA teachers hold posted student support hours for regular student and parent communication, create weekly instructional videos and content as needed, and facilitate course pacing with opportunities for remediation and enrichment. Synchronous session absences are reported to the local school for record-keeping per local school policy.
