This course creates an environment for students to excel in the contemporary German-speaking world. Topics of interest include cultural competencies while promoting consistent comparisons between this new culture and the learner’s own culture through the interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication. Requirements for this course include an upper ability and previous success in both written and spoken German, as well as a strong grasp of German linguistic structures. All coursework and communication between students and teachers will be in German. Therefore, authentic resources consisting of print materials, podcasts, vlogs, advertisements, video clips, short films, contemporary and classical music, and literary works will be utilized to both promote and strengthen this goal. Advanced linguistic structures and vocabulary are internalized through a contextualized learning process.

This course aligns with the College Board’s learning goals for AP German Language and Culture.
